eBay episode 2

Boohoo, I’ve already been outbid on both items I was bidding on: the IRiver MP3 player in my previous entry, and a 512 Mb MemoryStick I started with yesterday.
But since I still have until Thursday night, when both auctions close, I think I’ll just stop bidding for now, and try again on THursday night, half an hour before the end. Otherwise I’ll just raise the bids unnecessarily. Oh well, it’s a fun learning process…

Hello eBay

Today I entered the wonderful world of eBay. Finally, I hear you think…

Well, after reading an article in Intermediair, about how people bought new stuff at a fraction of the price, I got interested. Plus, what I heard from friends, it’s fun to participate in these bidding “races”. Since it’s all new to me, I first didn’t quite understand the “Auto Bid” feature when I enabled it, but now I’m glad I did, because at the moment I’m still the highest bidder for this brand new IRiver MP3 player.

However, I’m not sure whether I’ll get it, because what I understand from my friends, is that the last hour, or even minutes, are crucial. It’s possible to lose an object even in the last minute. And since the last day for my auction is on Thursday, when I’m hoping to be with friends in Sweden, I’m not sure whether I’ll have internet access during those last minutes. Oh well, this one is just for fun anyway.

Checkup OK

Woohoo… the checkup went well! They took some X-rays which showed that the surface of my left hip joint is still good! So, although I sometimes have pain in my left hip or knee, it’s definitely not time yet for another operation. Phew…!

The New Bed

I was gonna go for *this* bed, a MALM from Ikea (where else):

but it turned out to to be really low to the ground.

So eventually I decided to go for for the HEMNES:

They were going to deliver it in 2 weeks, but since I’m hoping to be in Sweden that week, I requested for it to be delivered a week after that, so between 7 and 10 June.

Thomson Modem Misery

Sigh… Since a few weeks, my parents’ ADSL modem has been having problems: basically it refuses to start up, with one of the diagnostic LEDs, which should come one orange and turn green, now remaining red. According to the user manual, this means it doesn’t get through its Power On Self Test. So you have to turn it off and on again a zillion times before it finally turns on properly and makes a connection. Grr…
As Murphy’s law dictates, these problems only started occurring AFTER the warranty period (1 year) has expired. Ours is now about 20 months old.

Back to Canada

My relatives from Canada have returned home again. I already miss them…
Although most vacations are too short, this one seemed extra short (for us) because they were on the road a lot, first to Belgium, and then to Luxemburg and Germany, so we only got to spend a few days together here in Holland. But we had a lot of fun, and it was great to have had them here. Come back soon!

de-laptopper gone

I usually avoid the free Sp!ts newspaper, because I don’t like the layout, plus the fact it’s from the same publisher as de Telegraaf (worst ’serious’ newspaper in Holland). I definitely prefer Metro, and not only because it originates from a Swedish newspaper

But yesterday on the train I happened to see this small article about De Laptopper suddenly having gone down, just like that! De-Laptopper is one of the largest mail-order companies here in Holland, which, as you might guess, specializes in laptops.

Obviously, lots of customers were not happy, like those who had already paid but not received anything yet, or those who recently bought their system, and still have warranty.

I was also shocked, because I’ve browsed their site many times, and was actually considering buying a laptop there…
